Description |
Obesity is wide-reaching health problem. It is estimated that 34% of the North American adult population is obese; of which 5% is morbidly obese.1 As a result many obese patients are scheduled for surgery, including thoracic procedures. An increased BMI is not the only determinant for morbidity and mortality during thoracic surgical procedures. Many patients have several comorbidities associated with their obesity that can complicate their operative course and increase their risks of postoperative complications. |
