Petroglyphs and Pictographs of Utah
Volume One: The East and Northeast
Kenneth B. Castleton
Profusely illustrated with photographs and drawings from hundreds of sites, these two volumes are among the most complete records of Utah rock art available. Volume One covers sites in eastern Utah, from the Capitol Reef/Canyonlands area to the Uinta Mountains, and emphasizes art from the Fremont culture.
Kenneth B. Castleton is Emeritus Professor and Dean of Medicine of the University of Utah. Upon retirement, he began an avocational study of Utah rock art, an avocation that soon became a vocation. He systematically visited all the rock art panels in Utah, undertaking this research with a high level of thoroughness gained from his scientific background. Castleton served as trustee of the Associates of the Utah Museum of Natural History for six years, two of those as President. In 1977, he was elected an honorary life trustee.
