Throughout its history, Ogden City has had a very diverse and unique community when compared with the rest of Utah. The introduction of the railroad into the city brought an explosion of growth and attracted many people not of the previously dominant LDS community. With this influx of people came an "us and them" attitude found anywhere from business to politics in the community, but the different groups found common ground in their concern for the success of the city and in the railroad that shaped the city. The decline of the railroad caused the industries in Ogden to slowly close down which resulted in many people leaving the community. These gaps were later filled by immigrants new to the community further diversifying the city. For example, in the last thirty years, the city has only grown by a few thousand people, while the Hispanic population has increased four times what it was. |
