Western artist George Catlin captures the primitive violence of a struggle between the fiercest of American beasts and Plains Indians wielding lances and knifetomahawks. Catlin is one of the many painters and photographers of the early West whose work appears in The American Heritage HIstory of the Great West. The book traces the exploration and settlement of the West from before the American Revolution trhough the beginning of World War I. Published by American Heritage Publishing Co., Inc., distributed to the trade by SImon and Schuster Inc.
